Day 19

Whadda ya know! I’m getting to blog about our day since the kids are going to bed early tonight because we are sleeping in our CAR!

I can hear you say, “wait, what?”

Yep. We had such a horrific time with the wind in our tent last night and were “freezing” in 40 degree weather, and barely got any sleep, that we decided, since it’s supposed to get down to 29 tonight, that we were NOT sleeping in the tent .

Here is a video of Mimi waking up in her Mummy sleeping bag this morning. Silly girls.

We were all so hungry this morning, so after broke down the tent and packed up the car we went out for a big country breakfast.

Let me tell you! Youngblood’s is THE place for breakfast in Amarillo, Texas. Every cowboy and his uncle was having their biscuits, gravy and sausage this morning!

“Mom, their biscuits are better than yours when you use that brown flour”. 🤣

I was a little concerned about ordering an omelet because I hate overcooked eggs with brown on them, but the waitress said they were light snd fluffy and really good so I ordered the green chili and cheese omelet. It did nothing disappoint.

Then we headed into the Palo Duro Canyon.

What a beautiful place! There are great trails of all distances and skill levels.

We walked the Lighthouse trail (7 Miles) and a short piece of the Camacho trail.

We had a beautiful, overcast 53 degree day.

A little rest after three miles.

We had to cut the lighthouse trail a little short because Nina got cactus quills in the roof of her mouth…..somehow.

But the girls really want to ride horses in this Canyon some day. Both of the riding stables close by were fully reserved for the two days we were here so we missed out this time.

I’m a little upset with myself for not making the reservations sooner, but this is the first time I have ever been to a canyon and knew we were tent camping and couldn’t pull the timing together on the weather, location, access, accommodations, meals, AND activities. Remember I said we are sleeping in our car tonight? Yeah, flying by the seat of our pants a few days out here in canyon land.

There are some really cool Longhorns at the entrance of the park!

Made me hungry for a big steak after that hike.

But the kids wanted Thai food.

We found an excellent Thai restaurant in Canyon, Texas. The locals call it “Soccer Mamas”🤣

It has delicious food. And we KNOW our Thai food.

We were blessed with a beautiful sunset.

I introduced the girls to the Looney Tunes Roadrunner and Coyote cartoon and the watched a 30 minute episode of it. I thought it would be neat for them to see the animation and antics of those guys in the same setting as we are currently in. They got a kick out of them.

Well, going down for my cozy bed now (the drivers seat of my car) and resting up for our final day in Texas tomorrow. Nite, nite y’all.
