Durango, Colorado is a town nestled between two mountain ranges. It is just a short drive to the San Juan National Forest which is beautiful!
That’s where Purgatory ski resort is located.
We spent the day there.

The drive up was gorgeous, the parking lot was covered I. Ice and snow, but when I saw the resort vans navigating the road like it was nothing, I figured it was just my NC snow fears getting the best of me and trusted we would be able to enjoy the day and still make it back down the mountain safely.

There is an Urgent Care on site! I wasn’t sure if that was supposed to bring comfort or terror to a mother. It brought both.
I had three first time skiers. Nina asked the guy what “these” (the skis) were for.🤣 Oh boy!

After spending 45 minutes trying to find a pair of ski pants that fit me since the ones I brought were too tight!🤦🏻♀️ And paying $120 for them 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️, we got on the slopes.

We spent a lot of time skidding down the mountain on our bottoms.

And laying in the snow.

Which was beautiful, by the way.

Mimi and I sat in the snow a while because we forgot to attach our lift tickets to our jackets, so we had to send Becca walking up the mountain in her ski boots to look for them (any couldn’t find our bag) because they wouldn’t let Mimi in the lodge without a mask after she spent 45 minutes walking up the mountain to get them first.

I got to walk Nina down this private nook in the woods and show her how to make yellow snow.🤪🥶
Yeah, it was a rough day.

But a beautiful one.

Mimi and Becca managed to ski down the beginner slope at least 10 times. They got pretty comfortable and wanted to go higher.
I didn’t let them. You’re welcome, Gran.😊
Ever
When fell to stop she said, “Well, that’s one way!” 🤣 That cracked me up.
The girls said they had a really good day and love skiing, so, I guess our first time wasn’t as big of a disaster as it felt like.

And no one got hurt, so it was a win!

I am so glad we did it. I couldn’t take the girls to Colorado and NOT go skiing.
We headed back down the mountain. The views are stunning.

We made it back to our home resort and got in the hot tub for our aching bones.

I did a load of laundry and hopped in for a while too. Aahhh. Such a relaxing end to a very eventful day.
